Wheels Rolling, We Are On A Mission
Everyone remembers their first bike- the freedom, the exhilaration, the challenge, and the accomplishment of staying up on two wheels for the first time. My First Bike is dedicated to the premise that every kid deserves their first bike.
Our goal is simple; we will raise money to purchase adaptive cycles for kids with special needs, that would otherwise not have the opportunity for one. The families of these kids are often distressed with expensive care and medical expenses making the purchase of an adaptive cycle difficult. My First Bike will provide an opportunity for fitness, rehabilitation, liberty and self-esteem with your help and support.
Suzy Royal’s bicycle arrives
“”Wow!” Suzy Royal exclaimed. “It’s here.”
For 8-year-old Suzy Royal, a bicycle means fun — and freedom. Because Suzy has cerebral palsy, riding a regular bike is not an option for her.”

Sip Wine Tasting a Huge Success!
Thank you to all that attended our Sip Wine tasting event. We greatly exceeded expectations and goals, got to sample some great wine, and had a lot of fun. But the best part of the event was the presentation of a new bike to Taylor Flanagan by the Arasi family. Please view presentation video.

Steve Mitchell is making a difference from Colorado!
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Steve Mitchell is currently pursuing his graduate work in aerospace engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Steve is a member of the CU triathlon team – living and training in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. He shares his time between classes, research, and volunteering with local educational outreach organizations.
Steve’s path to My First Bike (MFB) first started when he was watching Universal Sports’s television coverage of the 2009 Louisville Ironman.
Steve is focusing on Justin Night’s fund raising campaign by training and recruiting sponsors for this June’s Half-Ironman Triathlon in Lawrence, Kansas. The Half Ironman is comprised of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 run.

Arasi Family Builds a Bike for Taylor Flanagan
The Arasi family has generously completed the fund raising required to purchase Taylor Flanagan’s bike and will have the honor of presenting it to her soon.
Rich and Kathy Arasi live in Milton, Georgia with their three daughters, Victoria (18), Jenny (15) and Alexandra (9). Rich is a physician and Kathy is a stay at home mom who has strength trained with Matt Russ for the last four years. Last December, Kathy attended the inaugural MY FIRST BIKE presentation and was very moved and inspired by first recipient Tim Beighley’s story of perseverance, positive attitude and genuine appreciation for the opportunity to have his own adaptive bicycle. ”There have been times during the last 18 years when my own children have had short term physical setbacks,” Kathy explains. “During those experiences, my respect and empathy for parents and children with long term challenges have greatly increased.” The Arasis feel blessed to have healthy, active girls and want to pay their blessings forward by giving another child the chance to expand her world of play and movement with an adaptive bike.

The Sport Factory Presents Their First Bike

Curtis and Jen Henry (left), Tim Beighley, and Sarah and Matt Russ pose with Tim's new bike.
Our end of season party is always a lot of fun. We get to recognize our athlete’s accomplishments, present our Coach Of The Year award, and recap and celebrate another great season with our team members. This year we had almost 100 in attendance, however, the best part of the evening was presenting the first bike purchased by My First Bike to our kiddo Tim Beighley. Tim stole the show with his inspirational speech and winning attitude. Our hard work was paid back in full. Thank you Tim!

Sport Factory Open Water Swim Clinic Benefits MFB
Team Sport Factory held its first Open Water Swim Clinic to benefit My First Bike on July 26th, 2009, at Lanier Park.
The open water swim clinic fundraiser was a huge success. Thank you to all of the swim instructors, volunteers, and participants who helped us to reach our goal….. A bicycle for Tim! We had 4 lead swim instructors who enthusiastically taught our 30 participants all of the skills needed to complete a swim in a triathlon. The feedback was incredible, as was the breakfast buffet following the clinic. Our special guest was Tim Beighley who will be the first recipient of a bicycle from MyFirstBike. Everyone enjoyed meeting Tim and his family; and they are thrilled to have a bicycle soon. Thanks again to everyone! Our first official fundraiser was awesome!
Build A Bike Campaign
Would you like to have a direct impact on a kids freedom, rehabilitation, mobility, and self-esteem? We can help your organization, club, company, or family design a “build-a-bike” fundraiser. The cost of an adaptive cycle is $4000 and 100% of the funds you raise will go directly towards your kiddo’s bike! We add your orgnization to our center slider on the My First Bike home page and you can track your fund raising progress as well as meet the kiddo you will be helping.
We will add a 25% portion of the bike to your web page for every $1000 raised.
Once you have hit your goal you will have the personal satisfaction of presenting your kiddo with their first bike!
If you would like to start a build a bike campaign, or need help organizing a fund raiser, just email us at info@myfirstbike.org
